The battlefield conditions of today and tomorrow are drastically different than those experienced in past conflicts; the old problem of not having access to an adequate amount of up-to-date information has been resolved by new communications technology. The old information problem of confusion stemming from inadequate information, referred to as the “Fog of War”, has been replaced by a new condition where warfighters are bombarded by an information overload, too little of which is organized properly or pertinent to their immediate mission. In order to address this new “Glare of War”, battlefield technology must incorporate intention awareness and intelligence analysis components that parse through the communications and only present the most pertinent information. Furthermore, it is necessary to create predictive systems that will recognize information needs that will arise in the future.
